Teens/Adolescents – Inpatient & Partial

Modern life can take a toll on adolescents in our community. Intensifying demands from family, friends, community and school can become more than they can handle. Often, a lack of effective coping mechanisms can result in acute psychiatric, emotional and/or substance abuse problems that require expert treatment. The professionals at the South Oaks Child and Adolescent Center of Excellence (located on the Nassau/Suffolk border on Long Island, New York), are empathetic to the unique needs of adolescents and have developed highly effective treatments that empower patients to manage their symptoms and attain personal goals.

Inpatient Program

Teen Substance Abuse, Teen Drug Rehab and Mental Illness

The Adolescent Inpatient Program is designed for individuals ages 13 through 18 who experience acute symptoms of psychiatric disorders and emotional illness, as well as teen substance abuse or dependence, or those in need of teen drug rehab. These can be disorders or mental illnesses such as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Anger Management, Bipolar-related challenges and Drug and Alcohol abuse.

Treatment for adolescents follows two separate tracks: psychiatric treatment and a combination of psychiatric treatment and substance abuse (dual diagnosis) treatment. Each focuses the adolescent on specific individualized goals aimed at reducing negative symptoms and motivating the individual towards personal and community responsibility. This occurs within a supportive therapeutic environment where individual and family assessments guide the course of treatment and the continuation of care.

It is important that our patients are also able to meet their educational requirements during their stay. Classes are held on-site by certified educational professionals to maintain academic standards during inpatient treatment.

To ease the transition back into the community from the inpatient program, South Oak’s Child and Adolescent Center of Excellence is one of only two facilities in Suffolk County that offer a partial hospitalization program as part of its continuum of care.

Visiting hours are available twice each day from 12:00pm to 12:40pm and 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

Partial Hospitalization Program

The Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is designed for individuals ages 13 through 18 who are in need of intensive psychiatric treatment, yet are able to live in the community and attend school. Participation can also ease the transition back into the community following an inpatient stay.

The program is grounded in the belief that young people can affect positive changes in their lives. Our goal is to provide a supervised, caring, therapeutic environment in which individuals can maximize their ability to manage their symptoms, learn to take personal responsibility and develop the support systems necessary to promote optimal developmental growth and functioning within their families, schools and community.

The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Transportation is available within the catchment area for a nominal fee.
