Chemical Dependency & Substance Abuse Programs

We Believe in Recovery

South Oaks Hospital, located on the Nassau/Suffolk border on Long Island, New York, offers a full range of specialized programs for adults 18 years and older who suffer from addictive disorders, including alcoholism and substance abuse, such as heroin or other drugs.

To further serve the community, South Oaks Hospital expanded its chemical dependency program providing patients with a warm and inviting experience. In 2013, Jennings Hall was redesigned and repurposed to meet the demonstrated need of our inpatient rehabilitation and detoxification programs. South Oaks opened this newly redesigned environment to promote healing and recovery. The program provides treatment and can serve a census of up to 52 individuals at one time including 24 inpatient beds allocated for detoxification, and 28 beds allocated for rehabilitation.

Jennings Hall is a beautiful building outfitted with warm and vibrant décor with considerable natural light, handsome accommodations, private space for meetings, and extensive dining and lounge facilities. During warmer weather, the scenic outdoor patio is a favorite gathering place for patients.

For patients who are affected by coexisting disorders – a combination of addictive disorder(s) and mental illness(es) – South Oaks can provide comprehensive psychiatric services in the Chemical Dependency and Substance Abuse Program.

Our treatments utilize a multidisciplinary team of board certified psychiatrists, pharmacists, nurses and nurse practitioners, social workers, credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors and addiction specialists in psychiatry as well as licensed mental helath counselors to facilitate recovery. Working together, they utilize advanced intervention techniques and evidence-based treatments through psychotherapeutic and pharmacological means, such as:

South Oaks provides support for the families of our patients through family conferences (with patient consent). These sessions provide the opportunity for family members and patients to facilitate open communication in a supervised setting.

Education is also provided to both family and patients regarding specific diagnoses, as well as the availability of in-home services and support groups. Most importantly, our staff provides compassion, care and comfort while helping patients cope with their addictive behaviors, decrease denial and increase their motivation towards a safe recovery.
